Catch Me if You Can

The demonic attacks had started to happen increasingly with much greater intensity than before. It even started to draw the attention of the mundane security forces, the police, and common people.

The worst possibility was the involvement of vulnerable humans in the superworld demonic attacks. Not a single soul was able to figure out the reason behind these attacks as everyone was aware of the basic rules of survival. But of course, there are always a few rebellious bullies in every class. Guess this demon was from one of their clans. Few college students were said to go missing in the areas suspected where the attacks took place. The humans as well the supernaturals who had to pay the price of these anonymous demon’s unexplained toll were brutally torn apart and the sight of their dead bodies was horrific. And it was still a mystery as to what pissed off this demon so much?

The New York Police Department and other authorities-in-charge of the neighboring areas organized search parties for the missing. The superworld too organized its search plus save the stupid commoners party.

Aiden, Kayle, Kol, Bree, and a few other new generations of protectors were a part along with a few werewolves like Thea’s pack and vampires — who were led by Augustus, a powerful hundred-and-fifty-year-old vampire.

Augustus and Thea were each other’s nemesis.

Augustus was pale looking, tall and intimidating with cold expressionless eyes and dark brown locks. He had an attractive physique, and caught the attention of quite a few damsels who ended up being his full course meal.

Thea, on the other hand, was a breath of fresh air. The girl was unique otherwise, she was cold and bold. A contrasting personality indeed, she was soft on the inside but tough externally. She was of an average height of 5ʹ6ʹʹ and a tanned complexion with jet black eyes and jet-black locks reaching her shoulders. She had a pair of dimples on the sides of her lips which charmed the world whenever she smiled.

Aiden already had a lot on his plate given the current doppelganger situation. Since Skylar was helpful, they decided to ask her about the demons of the 1700s. As was earlier discovered by Kayle, this was no normal demon. They expected to get some answers from Skylar and prepared the forensic reports and prints to display so that it could assist Skylar to identify who it was and what it wanted. Thanks to the people who had burned down all the essential records and scriptures in their rage and ego for pointless revengeful fantasies. Now their successors are sadly suffering. That evening, Skylar was invited to the common arena for coffee with the new generation. Kayle presented her with all the imprints and prints that could be identified on the sight, and Skylar was filled with the minutest detail.

“Skylar, there have been numerous demonic attacks which were caused out of nowhere. Moreover, currently there were no conflicts, and everything seemed to be peaceful. So, it’s quite absurd as to why it is happening.”

“Not only supernatural beings but humans were also attacked and the doppelganger Jade could have been one of the victims, but she was saved by Aiden. The attacks started with her.” Kayle sighed and continued.

“The random attacks are being covered under the pretext of negligence and animal attacks from the public, it is evident that vampires are involved with the demon. Do you think it could be some sort of revolution?”

Skylar then replied to Kayle, “No, this is no revolution. If the demon is going after Jade then it has got to do something with the doppelganger prophecy, and it could be that since they couldn’t hunt Jade down, they are making collateral damage to the community. Kayle showed me the imprints. As far as I know, a new demon of this age won’t dare take a challenge unless and until they are backed up by someone strong and powerful.”

After examining the prints for about an hour, she was able to figure out the identity of the demon.

“These demonic souls trace back to the 1600s. They almost went extinct in the 1800s, courtesy to the war of the 1750s. Shax is the one, a demon in Ars Goetia, who is the mastermind behind these horrendous attacks. And the demons here are called ‘the Children of Solhm,’ that is the Shax.” Skylar explained in a fierce tone of mystified aura as if it was associated somehow with her.

Others furrowed their eyebrows in confusion, waiting for Skylar to elaborate further.

“You must have heard about it, but you don’t have any knowledge in detail; that’s because all the records of their existence were burned down by them and some by the community to save the future from their eerie shadows. Some of them were killed, which is very hard to do. Some were captured and still are in a secret location which is confidential, and a few went away no one knows where. It could be that this demon is free from its captivity. That means others are too and if it isn’t then they are back and they are here to free their mates, who loathe us and won’t even think once before killing us.” Skylar voiced in one breath.

“So, Skylar, what was the reason behind the wars. It was the main reason that a part of our history was removed by these wars. The war played a major destructive role. We are not able to find any information about them as all the sources have either been burned or killed. Only you can help us by throwing some light,” added Kayle thoughtfully.

“Yes, I will but that’s a story for another day. Since you said that these demonic attacks were supported and assisted by the vampires, it’s time to meet Augustus and his wretched crew.”

‘See you soon troublemaker,’ Skylar muttered to herself rather angrily.

The werewolf, Thea’s, pack members were also casualties of these attacks. Thea had eavesdropped on Skylar’s conversation and decided to follow Skylar to watch her move to Augustus’s den.

Skylar didn’t show or express, but she was afraid deep down inside her.

Shax was the reason why Emerald died.

But why? And how?

Well, that’s a story for another day just like Skylar said.

To gather more information on the demon, Skylar decided to get information out of Augustus and meet the human descendants of Shax demon himself — Ace Wayland — wicked, wacky, selfish and a little too sweet with a deceptive kind of appearance.

Sounds fun to me …
