More Information

From that day onwards, Aiden couldn’t resist staying put anymore and went straight to Skylar for a chat the other day. He was accompanied by Kol, Kayle, Riley, and Bree.

Bree informed Lucy before leaving with her friends so that Lucy can take care of the matter if anything went out of control.

Aiden and his friends soon reached Skylar’s apartment and knocked at the door. The door suddenly opened wide by itself, and Skylar told them to enter.

“Whom do we have with us today,” she rhetorically questioned.

“Oh! The boy I met yesterday, and who are the rest of you all?” She pointed at the rest. Kayle said excitedly, “Hello ma’am, I’m Kayle Layland, a big fan of yours,” she said clearly fangirling over Skylar as Kol touched her arm from behind gesturing her to calm down.

“Hi Kayle, that’s pleasing to hear!” She looked toward Kayle with a huge smile.

Aiden interrupted, “We are here to ask you a few things. Shall we sit down and discuss?”

“You are lucky that I like Kayle, otherwise a mere group of young protectors, or even old for that matter, do not command me to sit.” Skylar glared at Aiden, and he nodded.

“Do you remember the girl you saw yesterday at the mall, don’t you?”

This question perked Skylar’s interest in the conversation, and she impatiently asked, “Yes, what about her? How do you know her?”

“We are here to ask you the same thing. What do you know about her? She is a supernatural, but we can’t figure out what she is …” added Aiden.

“Why do you care, young man? Why are you so concerned about her? She could even be dangerous. You are willing to risk it all for an unknown supernatural!”

“Skylar, actually she doesn’t know who or what she is. Her parents are commonplace. No evidence of anything supernatural in the family.”

“So, you know her well, what is her name?” Skylar raised her eyebrows and asked.

“Yes, I know her, and her name is Jade Harris”

“Oh! Now they have started to use ‘Harris’ … impressive!”

Kayle asked curiously, “You know about her lineage, don’t you?”

“Oh dear! I hate to bring this to you but Aiden, your beloved lover, is a doppelganger of a very old and powerful witch bloodline. This tells us that she is her descendent.” Skylar concluded with a sigh and rubbed her hands.

Bree then asked her, “What bloodline? I remember checking all the witch-family histories, she fits in none.”

Skylar cautiously added, “Ever tried the Whitelocks?” Skylar asked with the side of her lips slightly tilted. The others were taking in every word that Skylar uttered. They were impatiently waiting for more answers. Tension and curiosity was piling high.

“Yes, wait, no, I remember the Whitelocks. But their history was only limited till the 1800s. The witch … someone … with a name starting with ‘I’, don’t know ‘I’ or ‘E’ … I don’t clearly remember.”

“Emerald Whitelock isn’t it?”

“Yes, yes, exactly Emerald Whitelock. Suspiciously, there is no record of their bloodline as if they went out of existence all of a sudden and it is also said that Emerald Whitelock died in a tragic accident.” Bree exclaimed as she got up from the fluffy white couch.

Skylar stood there and nodded, she took a deep breath and said, “That’s enough information for today. Come back tomorrow. Now see yourselves out.”

When they left, Skylar took a deep breath and composed herself. She stood up and called Lucy over and informed her that Emerald has a doppelganger.

Lucy was awestruck and exclaimed, “How is it even possible! Doppelgangers are only supposed to exist if there is something incomplete or something uncertain, to maintain balance, then why …?”

Lucy then added, “It is true then Em is alive, and she has a walking talking supernatural doppelganger. It’s time we meet this Whitelock or Harris girl.”

After the meeting, Bree ran to the common arena’s library that was taken care of by the witches. It was not a typical library but one that held historical records of the realm, grimoires, texts, etc. Bree ran to find Whitelock’s name but surprisingly she couldn’t find the book from which she had dug out the information.

She ran up to Aiden …

“Aiden! The records about Whitelocks … ” she panted. “All gone, they’re all gone, they were here the other day, someone must have taken it.”

Kayle conjectured, “If someone has stolen it that means someone knows more about it than we do but who could it be?”

They insisted Aiden come clean with Jade on this matter. She deserves to know the truth about herself and her family. She shouldn’t be kept any longer in the dark and besides it might be that Jade knows something, some legends or information or hearsay … anything ...

Aiden then told his friends, “There is something else we need to ask her, about some ornament that she had, about which Skylar was too curious.”

At Skylar’s apartment meanwhile, “The jewel Luc, she had it. If Em is still alive, she would have never given it to her by will at least. She isn’t fine then we must presume.” Skylar was full of anguish and troubled thoughts. She did not know what to think.

“I mean I don’t know what to say, could be a possibility, but I’m just not ready to admit the fact that she’s alive, she was burnt to death right in front of us.” said Lucy with a lot of emotion. She was a mixture of worry and confusion.

“I know it’s too unbelievable even for us, but we would be stupid if we don’t count it as a possibility, we must find her!”

In the human world, Aiden, Kayle, and Bree met Jade outside her school. As she left the school preoccupied with the thoughts of some extra work, she came across the protectors gang.

“Hey, Jade! Can we talk to you for a minute?” Asked Aiden politely.

“Aiden, hey, what a surprise that you are not running away from me and coming to meet me for a change,” Jade said with a smirk on her face. She was indeed surprised to see him there.

He shrugged and said, “Sorry about that, we need to tell you about something important. Let’s settle down somewhere and talk.” Jade narrowed her eyes and looked at him and his friends not sure what they were up to.

“Please,” he added.

She nodded.

Kayle then introduced herself, “ Hi Jade, I’m Kayle, nice to meet you. You’re even prettier than I imagined,” she added the last part and smiled.

Bree also greeted her. They settled down at the nearest coffee shop.

“Jade, what I’m about to tell you is a bit over the board and somewhat shocking for you but believe me it’s okay and there are many of us like you.”

“What is it Aiden, just say it. Stop beating about the bush. You’re actually scaring me.”

“Okay! To start with, the legends about the existence of all supernatural creatures you might have heard some time or the other, is actually true. They exist in this very world around us, among us, and we three are a part of them. Bree here is a witch, Kayle and I are protectors. Our side of the world is called the superworld realm and Jade … yo-you are ONE of us.”

“I knew it! Something was off from the very beginning! Taking in that supernatural creatures, demons, fairies, and witches exist is already something big to digest but the fact that you’re saying I’m one of you all is absolutely absurd. I can’t move things with my mind. I can barely do calculus!” She almost yelled at them.

“Jade, humans can be manipulated by supernatural creatures, but I couldn’t do that to you, remember, when I tried to erase your memory on the night of the killing. You were even able to see me when I was invisible; something that only a supernatural creature can do! And not just that, you are the descendent of a very strong and prestigious bloodline of the superworld.”

“The Whitelocks,” chipped in Kayle.

“What! No, I’m Harris, did you not know it till now? It wasn’t so tough to remember, I know that for a fact,” she muttered the last part.

“Jade, your name is easy to remember but you’re not Harris. You also have a doppelganger, and doppelgangers are believed to be the descendants of a certain bloodline and the witch whose lineage follows you are the Whitelocks from the 1800s.”

“Dopple … what?” asked Jade, by now exasperated.

Bree calmly added, “Doppelganger is a double of a living person; it’s like an exact copy of yourself.”

Jade was astonished by everything she heard. She raised her eyebrows and took a deep breath, “Well, it is a lot to take in, I don’t even know if my parents are aware of this.”

“Wait, does that mean I’m adopted? How will I tell them…. Hey mom, your daughter has a doppelganger who was born in … like … the 1800s, amazing!”

Aiden then said, “Hmmm, she was born way before that … ” as he looked down at the table, his lips in a straight line as he tried his best to stay serious.

Jade then sarcastically said, “Wow cherry on the cake!”

Aiden kept his hand over her hand across the table and tried to assure her,

“Jade you are not alone in this, we are there for you.”

“Aiden, thank you but I don’t even know you guys,” she exclaimed with a worried look, she further added, “I thought of telling this to you, but I didn’t that day, since I had encountered the sight of the demon, or whatever you call it.”

“Right! We do call it a demon.” Aidan chuckled, “I started to have these vivid dreams of this necklace. I saw myself wearing a 1700’s outfit, corset and then fire in a house, screams, screeches and then I would always wake up. I don’t know what they are but maybe they have something to do with this?”

Bree then sighed, “Yes Aiden, I heard Lucy saying that Emerald died in some fire in the 1750s.”

Jade then realized that she could connect everything with the necklace, but she didn’t say anything. Before they left, they told her that they will take her to the super realm in a few days.

Jade was in a dilemma about her life. She was still confused if she should complete her overloaded assignments that were due?

I mean if I were a supernatural being, would I be reading Shakespeare and doing geometry or should I be rather fighting the bad guys more importantly. That’s what I wonder.

She had college plans, filled with ideas to decorate her dorm room, and enjoy her life. But everything started to fade from her mind for the time being. Later that day, Jade met Emily at her house. She told her about her doppelganger drama, “Jade! The necklace had jade and emerald stones on it, oh my god! Did you tell them about it?”

“No Emily I didn’t, I don’t know if I should. I don’t even know these people. Also, I feel that the girl whom we met in the mall that day, the shady one, is also related to this somehow and that she somehow knows my doppelganger.”

“Oh! You are right, don’t tell them everything for the time being. Do when you feel it is absolutely necessary. Jade, I won’t let you meet them alone from now on. You should have called me when they showed up. Whenever they meet you next time you ought to call me as well. I need to ensure your well-being. We are in this together.” Emily sat down next to Jade and held her hand as she spoke in a motherly tone.

“NO EMILY! It’s not safe. I’m destined for it. You are not. I don’t want you to get into any trouble.”

“Do you really think you can convince me! If you don’t tell me, then let us call off this friendship altogether!”

“As if you can go on without me,” Jade teased Emily and she lightly punched her forearm.

“Emily, you leave me with no choice sometimes, you’re so stubborn. Listen, grandma and grandpa are coming home today. Maybe I should ask them about our family history!”

“Yes, you can but don’t make them suspicious as we don’t know whether they know or not and let’s not reveal we know it. So, let’s keep it that way.” Emily spoke as if she was trying to cope up with who knows and who doesn’t.

“Yes, okay so I’m leaving for now. See you later, bye,” Jade left Emily’s and while walking back to her house her mind was clouded with thoughts that she wasn’t able to process.

When she got home, she was surprised to see her grandparents had already arrived. They were supposed to come by night, but they had reached early evening. She greeted them and hugged them!

“Grandma, grandpa, how are you? You came after a long time.”

“We are good my dearest, how are you? We missed you very much,” Jade’s grandmother kissed her on her forehead.

Her grandparents were seated in their living room.

Jade decided to talk to her grandmother about her thoughts at tea.

A few hours later, during teatime she went to her grandmother and told her that in one of her history assignments she must write about her family and its ancient lineage starting from the 1700s to the 1800s and that she needed pertinent information for developing the project.

Jade’s grandmother seemed a bit thoughtful at first but then told her that there is nothing special about their family, just normal professional doctors and some lawyers, that’s it, “Sorry my child, our family history is not so adventurous and exciting.”

Jade then faked a laugh and said, “All right grandma,” she knew that she was lying.

Jade then left to go up to her room. She wanted to find out more. She felt like she should check around her house to find anything that could help her connect the dots.

The area she suspected the most was their basement. Her parents didn’t let her go in there much, so she decided to check it once. When she went to the back of her house, she saw an old dusty broken wooden door. She opened it and saw a flight of stairs going down to the basement. It was pitch dark inside, she hesitated at first but then gathered up courage and walked down.

As she took her first step, she felt chills down her spine. She knew that there would be something that could provide her with more information about her bloodline, but she was ambivalent and thought to herself, ‘Is she ready to know it just yet? What if it’s not something that she wants? Maybe there was a reason why her parents hid it?’

But she avoided all those thoughts and made her way down.

Walking down the steps she suddenly felt a hollowness as she stepped on one particular stair. She bent down and knocked on it and felt like it was empty. Then she noticed a sort of flap on it almost hidden to eyes unless the person looked very closely. Jade pulled the flap open with all her strength and to her surprise, there was a whole area below, which was filled with ancient artefacts and a box.

Jade then squatted even lower, almost lying on the stairs and stretched one hand inside the hollow area to grab hold of the box. When she could feel the box, she pulled it towards her. There were many spider nets, creepy crawlies, and a lot of dust. Jade tried her best to be brave and pulled it out from under the stairs and dusted the lid free from dust. She was impatient to open the box and see what it contained. She could sense her hands getting drawn towards it on their own.

When she opened the box, to her surprise she found the pictures of a lady standing in the same dress, wearing a corset that she saw in her vivid dreams and having the same necklace around her neck, her face exactly like Jade’s but with a hair color that did not match. It was of a darker reddish hue.

There was another photo of hers with the girl and Jade gasped when she recognized her. It was the same girl who came up to Jade in the mall. The location too was familiar, it was in front of the cave where their family farmhouse was built, Jade remembered.

Jade’s parents barely took them there after she turned 8. Jade and June used to resist going there when they were young as it was an exceptionally quiet place, but their parents paid no attention to their unwillingness.

Now Jade realized why they did not take them there more often after they grew up and that’s why she had very few memories of the place. She was very young at that time. She couldn’t believe what she saw. At least it all made sense to her now.
