Men vs. Women Are they treated equally?

When you travel with a guy, who is expected to carry the heavier luggage? If only a single seat is available in a bus/metro, between a man and a woman, who is expected to give the seat to the other? When you go to a restaurant with your man, who is expected to pay the bills? Isn’t it men most of the times?

In today’s world, where women are supposed to be given equal status as men, we should also note that this equality should work both ways. By saying this I mean, women should be thought to be no less than men in emotional, mental or physical aspect.

Women should be given equal opportunity to grow professionally, but on the other hand, women should not be given more priority when it comes to day to day life, as in, for example, reserved seats for ladies in buses and metros. Women should not be considered weaker than men physically.

The main responsibility of providing for all the needs of a family is always on the man of the house. Why can’t a woman be equally responsible for providing for the family? Won’t two earning hands be better than one?

The advantages this will have are:

It will lessen his burden

He will be able to spend more time with family.

It’s a win-win situation. When he has more time to spend with family, he can help his wife with household chores as well, thus reducing the stress of the woman and make it more enjoyable.

Why does any work need to be termed to be for either for a man or a woman? There shouldn’t be any pre-defined tasks for men and women. It should be based on an individual’s strengths and capabilities, rather than gender. Gender of a person should be inconsequential.

Men also need to change the way they think. They should not think themselves to be the superior being and let go of ‘Men’s Ego’. It’s fine if a woman pays at a restaurant, it doesn’t really matter. If a woman is as strong as the man, what’s the harm in lifting the luggage? Why should household chores be a women’s job and providing for the family, a men’s? It should be based on who is better at what.

Parents should start teaching their children this important concept of equality. Involve them in indoor and outdoor activities irrespective of their gender. Focus on their interest and help them perfect it as that will take them places.

Why should a girl always leave her home and move-in with the boy and his family after marriage? Aren’t the girl’s parents equally important for her? For it to be equal for both, parents should let their children move out and live on their own. Even the boy should understand what a girl goes through when she leaves her near and dear ones after she gets married. This way both will be able to understand each other better as both are in the same phase of life. Moreover it will help them face the difficulties of life together making them emotionally strong.

Based on study, since 2012, more and more women are taking part in Olympics and currently the number is almost 50 percentages as compared to men. This proves that women are no lesser than men.

As an individual, we should try and get this change in our day-to-day life as well. It’s our fault of we expect others to be considerate towards us only because we are women. If we want equality of men and women, we need to first believe ourselves to be equal to men. We should start breaking the false stereotypes of the world and contribute in implementing this change.

Don’t look for others to bring the change. Be the change and the world will follow.
