We meet people working at big companies, big brands, and all I remember thinking is that they are so lucky to be working at such good organizations. But tell me one thing, is it mere luck that some people get the opportunity to work with such companies while the others don’t?

Few months back I got tired of working at a company, and, wanting a break from the redundant life, I resigned, without even having another job in my hands. For around a month I completely relaxed and roamed few of the places I hadn’t got time to visit. I was sure that I would get another job whenever I would start looking for it, hence didn’t give it another thought. Little did I know I was in for a big shock!

After my break, I started looking for a job without even giving myself some time to prepare for the same. As a result, in the first few interviews, I failed miserably. I would find it hard even to clear the first round. It was devastating, but thankfully I didn’t lose hope, not yet.

As they say everything happens for a reason: as I attended more and more interviews, I got a knack of the type of questions that were asked. I started preparing myself accordingly and slowly, but steadily, my interview experience started to improve. Gradually I started to clear the 1st round and in some cases even the 2nd. I started to regain my confidence and feel positive of landing a job soon.

On one such interview, I happened to clear all the rounds. While I waited for the final HR round, I felt pretty sure that this was my breakthrough that I had been waiting for so long, and started dreaming about how my life would change when I start working there. Soon, they called me for the HR round. It was this time that I faced an unexpected rejection. The reason was they were not ready to pay me my expected salary and would therefore not consider my candidature. I was heartbroken. It had taken me nearly a month to prepare myself to this extent that I was able to clear an interview, and still I was rejected.

Then following this, I gave several other interviews and faced similar fate in all. I was clueless. To be unable to clear an interview would be my fault, but to clear and still be rejected was something that was not in my hands. There were so many competitors; companies would always get another candidate whose expected salary would be lesser.

I finally started to lose my confidence and patience. I started to skip interviews thinking what was the used when they would simply reject me even if I would clear all the rounds.

So, I decided not to give up. My time was bound to come, all I needed was persistence. So, I started attending interviews again and performed to the best of my capabilities.

Finally, after a few more weeks of hard work, I did land a job at my dream company. I had finally found the secret to success. It is not just luck or hard work; it is a combination of some luck, hard work, confidence in oneself, and above all, persistence.
