The Un-owned Painting The unknown factor making it all the more mysterious and beautiful

My husband and I had just finished the tedious process of renovating our home and were in the process of decorating it, when we heard the doorbell ring. On opening the door we found that someone had sent us a parcel but there was neither any sender’s name nor any return address mentioned, where the parcel could be returned in case it was unable to be delivered.

As we flipped the parcel back and forth to find the sender’s name or address, the delivery guy started getting impatient since he had loads of other deliveries to complete before the day got over. So, we had to take the parcel and sign the receipt form, and not waste any more of his time. We were sure that it must be from any one of our relatives or friends and soon we would get to know about the sender.

Now, as we were extremely excited and no longer able to contain the surprise any longer, we quickly un-wrapped the parcel, to find a beautiful painting inside. The colours used in it were just amazing and the art in it left us to fully utilize our imagination to try and understand what the painting was trying to depict. I even found the perfect spot and hung the painting there, with no further delay. It seemed like it was made exactly for that particular spot. It looked just beautiful.

Soon, days passed by and it was almost a month since we had received that un-owned painting (now, that is what I started referring it to as). We just couldn’t figure out who could this person is, and without even a vague idea about the sender, we couldn’t really ask anyone. We couldn’t do anything but to wait for someone to inquire if we have received it. After all, I couldn’t fathom the fact that anyone could just send such a beautiful painting and want to keep themself as a secret sender!

As the days passed by further, we started getting more and more mysterious about the painting. At one instance, I also imagined it to have some kind of inbuilt spy camera that we see in movies. This thought was, however, soon rubbished by me since I realize that there actually won’t be any benefit for anyone to spy on us. After all, neither my husband nor I held on to any secret data that could be crucial to anyone.

As the days turned to months, we finally gave up on trying figuring out the sender of the un-owned painting. After all, if the sender wanted to be known, he/ she would have informed us already by now, so it was of no use for us to give it any more of a thought.

Till the present date, the painting still hangs on the exact same spot, adding beauty to the area, and with all the mysteries still hidden within it.

As rightly expressed:

It’s the unknown that draws people.

— E.A. Bucchianeri, Brushstrokes of a Gadfly, (Gadfly Saga, #1)

Thinking about the beauty and mysteries associated with this un-owned painting, isn’t there something that’s exactly like it — beautiful, yet full of mysteries? Yes, you are correct — Life. We can never say who actually own our life; we don’t have any control over it, do we? We may be laughing at one moment but, at the very next moment, we don’t really know what may happen. When we go to sleep at night after a long and hectic day, can we guarantee that we are going to wake up the next day? We plan so many things for our future, but can we be sure we will be there to live that future?

Though life is so unpredictable, yet it is beautiful. Like they say live life to the fullest at the present moment because, you never know how long you have been granted this beautiful life for.

Wear all those new pretty clothes that you have kept lock up in your cupboard, waiting for that perfect occasion to wear them. Look your best every day, because you never know which your last is. Don’t let any of your wishes go unfulfilled, if you have the privilege of living them today. Most importantly, don’t forget to thank God every night for granting you this day, and every morning because He helped you wake up to yet another day full of opportunities.

We should enjoy the unknown and admire the beauty of our un-owned life, just like the un-owned painting.
