Rajesh Khanna had crossed all boundaries of popularity as his name was a guarantee for success. His magic not only worked in Hindi Film Industry but abroad too. The documentary made on Kaka ‘The First Bombay Superstar’ is an exemplification.

The female artists of that golden period Aruna Irani who has been a part of many Rajesh Khanna starrers like Andaz, The Train, Aan Milo Sajna, Humshaqal, Kudrat, Safar,Prem Nagar, Masterji, Dhanwan, Phir Wahi Raat, Amrit and many others revealed about the superstar. ‘Rajesh Khanna’s craze was such as that girls used to kiss his white car which became red because of their lip stick color. She had never ever seen such madness for any actor before or after. Veteran actress Bindu also agrees she too did numerable movies with the actor like Do Raaste, Ittefaq, Dushman, Kati Patang, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Prem Nagar, Bhola Bhala, Alag Alag, Amar Deep and many others. Asha Parekh who has worked with Kaka as a leading lady in films Baharon Ke Sapne and later on Kati Patang and Aan Milo Sajna and reminisce as most of their scenes and songs were shot in Kashmir. She recalls that there was always a crowd around Rajesh Khanna. ‘Ladkiyan marti thi unpe’ and they use to flock on the sets in order to catch a glimpse of the National heartthrob.

Among artists Danny liked Rajesh Khanna a lot and he made his directorial debut with Rajesh Khanna starrer Phir Wahi Raat and has worked with him in films Oonche log, Aashiq Hoon Baharon Ka, Bandish and Dharam Aur Kanoon which did reasonably well. Reena Roy also liked Kaka with whom she worked in films like Dushman Dost (unreleased), Dharam Kanta, Asha Jyoti, Dhanwan and Hum Dono. Tom Alter was also one of the biggest fans of Rajesh Khanna and music director Abu Malik. Some other co-stars who were fans of Rajesh Khanna comprise Jaya Prada, Poonam Dhillon, Padmini Kolhapure and late Shri Devi who had worked with Rajesh Khanna in several films.

Rajesh Khanna’s popularity was an such an extent that in number films his name was used in dialogues like Bombay To Goa in which Mehmood characters name was Khanna and Anwar Ali’s was Rajesh who had a scene searching each other around the bus as one shouted Rajesh and the other Khanna and the bus passengers says who is Rajesh and who is Khanna, then one passenger replies I merely know Rajesh Khanna.

Music director Abu Malik also believes there is no bigger superstar than Rajesh Khanna and will never be. Rajesh Khanna believed, no matter, script-dialogues and director may be best, but he believed, when the camera was switch on, it was only Rajesh Khanna in front of it. So much confidence the actor had in him, Abu Malik had disclosed about Kaka.

The other scene was from Guddi when Jaya Bahaduri Bachchan meets Dharmendra at a studio and requests him for autograph and Dharmendra says ‘Nowadays I am hearing Rajesh Khanna’s name. Some more movies in which Rajesh Khanna name was used comprises Bombay To Goa Kiran Kumar starrer Raja Kaka, Asrani’s -Chala Murari Hero Banne, Dharmendra’s- Nauker Biwi Ka, Shashi Kapoor’s- Deewangi, Shri Devi’s- Chaalbaaz, Akshay Kumar’s- Action Replay and Sonam Kapoor’s-Neerja.

On his first death anniversary, a bronze statue of Rajesh Khanna was put in fore at Bandra Bandstand, Mumbai. Furthermore, a Chowk at Girgaon (Mumbai) has been named in his memory as Superstar Rajesh Khanna Chowk. A Park at Lajpat Nagar (New Delhi) was also rechristened as ‘Superstar Rajesh Khanna Park ‘at Lajpat Nagar New Delhi) and ‘Rajesh Khanna Garden’ already exist since several years situated at Khar, (Mumbai), right from his superstardom days.
