Chapter 6: Back in Present

Finally, we returned to the basement of aunty’s home. My mom and dad weren’t to be seen anywhere. When I checked the calendar, it was July 8th. It had been two days since we started our journey!!

“Aunty, thanks a lot for taking me on a quest with compassion to view the National Movements”, I thanked aunty profusely. Best ever birthday gift one can have and I am indebted to Aarthi aunty forever for this kind gesture.

With all the excitement she saw in me, aunty said, “Sharvesh, I am going to fix a few minor issues and make a couple of enhancements. Then I will dedicate my invention to the Indian government on the 75th Independence Day, as a tribute to the freedom fighters, so that millions of children like you can experience the same excitement as you, and enrich their knowledge of Indian history.”

I was truly amazed by her generosity and patriotism. When we reached the living room, we saw smoke coming from the kitchen. There was a small fire in the kitchen! It appeared that a small piece of paper had fallen on the lit stove and caught fire. Aunty quickly switched off the stove and extinguished the flame using sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, which was kept handy for emergencies. Both of us did spot cleaning and finally headed towards the main door. Aunty drove me back home in her car. When my mother saw me, she hugged me, “Sharvesh, how was the trip to the past? Did you enjoy it?” I replied, “Oh Mom, I can’t wait to share what an extraordinary and brilliant tour it was”!

I then sat with her and gave her a blow-by-blow account to elaborate on my intangible adventure to witness National Movements like Sepoy Mutiny, the Khilafat movement, the Quit India Movement and Civil Disobedience Movement. I learned many things during the tour to the past and intended to use it all in my life in order to become a Historian.

Jai Hind!
