You are in love with someone and imagine your entire life with that special person. You are happy and sure that you have found your soul-mate. But then, life brings such obstacles on your way in which you have to make the difficult choice of letting go of your love and getting on with your life. Initially, it is very difficult, and you never expect you will ever be able to overcome that pain, the pain of that heartbreak. But gradually, time does heal all types of wounds and you begin to live life again, even if not for yourself, but for your loved ones because seeing them worry about you is just not possible to bear. Another important factor is that it doesn’t change the fact that life goes on and we are forced to move on with it.

As life goes by, you find the perfect companion for yourself and get married. At this point, the main factor you look for is companionship and not love exactly. Love seems to take a backseat. You may find the best companion in your life-partner, but is it ever possible to fall in love again?

If you ever happen to cross paths with your ex; who you were really in love with but you just couldn’t spend the rest of your life with because of some unavoidable circumstances, doesn’t your heart still miss a beat? Don’t you still wonder how life would have been if you could have been successful at love?

But being successful at love is only granted to those few lucky ones. Most people are forced to choose life over true love.

Why is it called first love? It is because true love happens only once. It isn’t necessary that the first boyfriend/ girlfriend you had were your first love. It may just have been an attraction or an infatuation. When we are young, we do get attracted to the opposite sex and what we believe to be love may actually not be love. Sometimes, it does take a few failed relationships before we really understand what love actually is, and we understand this only when we do experience it. This true love is what is called first love.

However, it is not necessary that if we find our true love and life happens to be so grateful that we get to marry this person, it will be a happily ever after. Life isn’t that simple, most of the time. For a marriage to work, there are a lot of factors that come into play. Some of them are — companionship, respect, trust, understanding, commitment, and patience among several others; among which love is just a very tiny insignificant factor.

A marriage without true love may still be successful, but it is very difficult to make a marriage work with only true love. That’s the reason why we see more number of love marriages ending in divorce as compared to arranged marriages.

Though we always crave to find that true love of our life, what we fail to understand is that, true love is just good to be read in stories or to be watched in movies — be an audience to it. Actually, witnessing it may destroy you. You can compare it to the Sun: It is beautiful to look at — the sunrise, the sunset, or even when it is directly overhead shining brightly in the sky and making everything around it look alive and beautiful, it looks simply mesmerizing to look at; but if you even try to go near it, it will burn you to ashes. It is just meant to be admired from afar. Similarly, even true love seems to be better to be admired for a safe distance, since even coming near it may leave you heartbroken for the rest of your life. So, doesn’t it seem better to never witness true love than to have to bear the pain of being heartbroken? Maybe that’s why God saves some of us from finding that true love.
