I walked for nearly an hour
Through rocky hills and
Water flattened sand
Just to get to the place
Where we sprinkled you
Into the wild.
I haven’t been back
Until this day,
My soul urging me
To pay you a visit,
To release you
From the cage in
My heart I keep
You tucked up under.
There is freedom
In letting go.
Souls bond deeper
When there is space
Enough to fly independent
Of one another.
And so I did.
I opened the gate to
My heart and let you go,
As if a dove with rested wings
Kissing air for the first time.
A sigh left my throat.
A weight crumbled from
My back and I felt
Your smile in the
Marrow of my bones.
I knelt down and drew
A line in the sand.
And as I stepped from
One side to the other,
I knew I would never
Be the same and this time,
It is only for the better.
Now, we fly free together.
You in your world
And me in mine.
