I woke to the sound of singing. I shook the others awake. It was in the middle of the night. I felt it. Thalia wasn’t in the tent. Panic welled up inside me and we burst outside the tent and found Thalia humming in front of a fire, little tears rolling down her face. She looked up and stopped humming. Demi sighed through her nose and a small smile spread across her face. She sat next to Thalia and put her arm around her. They looked like sisters, with their same blue eyes and softer interior. I sat next to them.

The guys thumped down next to me, followed by Beth.

“Mayday, mayday, the ship is slowly sinking,” Thalia sung.

“They think I’m crazy, but they don’t know the feeling.” We joined in, singing My Demons into the night. I felt hope. I felt strength. Whatever this awful island did to us, I knew we’d survive.

We sang as loudly and as hopefully as we could.
