I miss the way we danced
In early mornings
Right before the sun
Cued life to beat the drum again.
I remember the whispers to my ear
And the calm that swallowed up
The storm swelling in my belly.
As I closed my eyes,
My body still swayed
To the feelings that arose,
The ones that strummed
The chords of my heart
Singing promises of never letting go.
I believed you.
I believed every word you said of me
But when you asked me
To trust you even more
I panicked, I stopped
I swung the drapes open
And asked you to leave
When you did without question,
The clouds came and thunder clapped
Muting the melodies of whimsy
I had come to adore.
I slid to my knees
I called your name and you came
Just as quickly as you left.
I see now you were never far,
Waiting perhaps,
To pick me up off the floor,
To offer me your hand so
We could resume
Our early morning dance
Right before the sun cued life
To beat the drum again.
