Pin me down and
Pull me all the way into you;
Wrap me in the comfort of your love.
My feet are trying to run again;
My mind an escape artist,
Booking its next flight
To anywhere but here,
Anywhere but this moment.
When I’m being asked to believe
What you say of me is true.
I want to fly away from this me –
From this you –
From this chisel being used
To unearth the raw
And pure heart in me.
It is easier to flee, to push away
To say ‘no, thank you’ when
You tell me to stay.
For what, I wonder.
What is on the other side
Of this cat and mouse game?
I have never been willing to
Risk a precious breath
On the pondering of it.
But, what if-
All the way into you
Is what untethers my soul
Just long enough
To catch air and rise
To the heights I was born
To stand on,
The stars I was
Designed to align?
