Vale (Goodbye in Latin)

4 months later

Jade’s point of view

It feels nice to be back home, well not exactly home the place where we were sent after we were relocated from home, the mundane realm. I missed my family. June is a pain in the ass but I missed her. More importantly, I was afraid she was going to raid my closet, thank god, she didn’t! But that doesn’t mean my things aren’t missing. Most of my heels lie around in her room god knows why this girl needs heels, she is already so tall for her age.

It’s been two months since I last saw him. I don’t remember everything due to the transition of places, but I get flashbacks about him, my friends, the fight … she said that it had to be done, it was necessary to maintain the balance to protect the realm. He protested but there was no point … it had to be done. We made this deal that they could come and meet me, and not to strip me of all my memories. Let me keep the brief details of my time there, it seems beautiful in my dreams no wonder it felt like heaven.

I miss him. I wonder when he will show up to meet me, or if he ever will.

God! Will Aiden come back to me some day?

Three months back (one month after the war)

Everything is getting back to normal here. The lives of people are finally peaceful as it used to be in this heavenly land. Aiden took me to a few places they were beyond beautiful. There is nothing about this place I dislike. It’s just like how heaven was described to us.

Last week, we went to the mountains for a hike. He took me to the spot from where I could have a full view of the ‘superworld.’ It was surreal and even more appealing than I can ever describe. I think we recreated the iconic Titanic scene on the mountain cliff. I wonder if people here know about the Titanic. I could feel his breath on the back of my neck as the sun began to set. He told me that I looked really pretty although I was sweating. I don’t know what beauty he was seeing in me, but he looked at me the way dad looks at mom every time their eyes meet. I felt a strange thrill and I gave off a little nervous smile. We trekked back and retired to where we lived. A few days later, Skylar called us for a meeting. We had no idea why we were being called again but believed it to be something important. Indeed it was.

She announced to give the ‘Whitelock’ bloodline the recognition that was stripped off due to the conflicts of the past. It made me happy I was not Jade Harris, I was Jade Whitelock. That’s my true identity. I realized I was not meant to be here … my bloodline left centuries ago and made a critical sacrifice for the well-being of all. If the same blood wanders around in the borders of the realms, the spell to protect won’t be of any use and all these years will go in vain. I couldn’t let that happen just because of my selfish desire to stay here. It was something more important than all of us. We couldn’t let the sacrifices of so many people go waste so I agreed to go back. Aiden was more than angry. As we left he smashed everything in his way, I tried to calm him down.

“Hey, listen to me,” I said as I held his hand, “I won’t let this happen, you’re not going any …” I cut him off before he could finish. I knew what he wanted was something that was beyond possible. If I logically repeat the words Skylar said it made complete sense. She tried to look for ways for our sake but none of them were in my favor. It was what it was.

Things can’t always go your way. “You’ll come to meet me right?” I asked him sincerely.

“Of course I will, you can go where you want to be, I will find you, I will take you there.”

“Don’t forget to get Kayle’s cake, or else I won’t let you enter my house.”

“Yes ma’am,” he said with fake mockery in his tone. We both laughed and shared a hug as I nuzzled my head against the crook of his neck.

After a month the ritual of sending me back with few memories was performed by Lucy and I was deported back to my old life aka high school — college ugh! I thought I had escaped this brutality, but clearly, I did not. I should have completed the calculus homework. I’m going to pay Emily to do it, I think. She won’t hesitate with some extra cash coming her way. She’s basically broke, so am I, but dad could spare me some bucks this time. You know I literally fought demons and I deserved it.

As I sat on the edge of my bed looking outside through the window, I reminisced. No one was home at the moment. June went to her friend’s house. Mom and dad were at the hospital and my grandparents left last week; they were proud of me. I thought this with pride and patted my own back since no one else was here to do it. As I was about to let my body go loose on the bed, I immediately jerked up to the sound of the high pitched doorbell and tumbled on the floor in a hurry. I gathered myself up and as I approached the door, I screamed from the stairs, “Who is it?”

It’s like 3 pm right now. Who will come now. June won’t be back till tomorrow. She had a sleepover. My parents get back only by 7 pm.

As I opened the door, my eyes met a pair of beautiful brown hazelnut eyes.

“I have a delivery of Kayle’s special cake for Jade Whitelock along with myself,” he said with a beatific smile. It was him; it was Aiden … he came back to meet me. As soon as I saw that face, more flashbacks came back to me in waves. But I was so happy.

“Since I got you the cake now, am I allowed in your house ma’am?” He asked curiously.

“Yes, you can come in please,” I said as I smiled at him.

Present (at the superworld)

Augustus in solitude

It’s been four months since the girl I had vowed to give my heart left me, not like she had a choice. I was sitting in the same restaurant where she used to spend most of the time of her day, the one where the wolves usually used to hang out. We have developed a kind of good understanding. It significantly reduced conflicts between both kinds. They allowed me to visit this place. There were always some moles who wanted to disturb the peace. I got them sorted from the vampires’ side; the werewolves are being taken care of by Luna.

As I sat looking out at the sky through the large window of the dining hall, the waiter approached me. An old man holding a pad and a pencil. His beard was salt and pepper and he had a name tag on his shirt — ‘Jim.’

He looked at him with a smile and asked, “What would you like today, son?”

“The usual, her favorite,” I replied with a small smile.

“Indeed, her favorite, she never tried anything but this, stubborn, just like you,” he said as he went to prepare my order. I like to cherish her memories although I wanted to create them with her but unfortunately, we never got the chance. The stars were not in our favour. But I can go to the places she loved and feel closer to her. This was the place I wanted to take her on our first date. Now I am sitting here all alone, on the same table with the same order. It baffles me how fast things change.

As Jim got my milkshake, Thea’s favorite one, Luna entered the hall and smiled at me, and I returned the smile back. She shook her head seeing the milkshake again, it’s the fourth time this week since she saw me with the exact same drink, and I laughed to myself. We became friends, she helped me get closer to Thea’s memories, what she liked, what were her favorite spots, etc. Thea was right like she always was, opening up to people does help, at least it did for me.

Luna’s solitary thoughts

Yes, I’m the new Alpha but this position is more than just being an Alpha … sadly I got it after the loss of the person who was closest to me, Thea.

Augustus is indeed stronger, emotionally more composed than me. If I can get through it, eventually he would too, I thought. But then I thought, Thea was the only person he ever truly loved and cared for.

At Skylar’s apartment that evening

“Ace!” She shouted at the top of her lungs. “What’s taking so long?” She questioned. Apparently, she was not allowed to come out of her room. She was strictly told to get ready and stay inside until he came in to get her. He wanted to keep the details hidden but Skylar knew he was up to something, and her mind wandered to his question about the date before the fight. She never admitted it but she wanted it as much as he did. She smiled to herself and sat on her bed as she got ready wearing a black bodycon dress with thick straps and black heels. She loved the color black; her hair was straight and showed off her natural-colored streaks. Then there was a knock on the door. “Close your eyes,” Ace said, his voice coming muffled through the door.

“Done,” she replied promptly.

“Good,” he muttered as he entered wearing a dark tailored suit. He closed the door behind him, and Skylar opened her eyes only to see Ace standing with his jaw on the floor. “Y … you look out of the world beautiful, Sky,” he said as his eyes were still taking in her beauty.

“Are you calling me an alien Ace?” She replied back with a raised eyebrow in a sort of mock anger.

“Oh … oh no … no Sky, I didn’t mean it like that,” he started to justify himself.

“You look like the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen.” She smiled and said, “Thank you, you don’t look too bad yourself.”

“Now why have you been wasting my time, Ace?” She asked to get to the point. He muttered something inaudibly ‘right’ under his breath and went up to her with a blindfold.

“Oh, I’m not putting that on.”

“We are literally in your apartment Skylar, it’s not like I’m gonna witchnapp you … I’d be dead before I even tried it.”

“You’ve got a point.”

He lightly blindfolded her and led her outside to her balcony. Once they got there, he removed the blindfold, as they stood in Skylar’s majestic balcony. Skylar gasped at the scene before her.

It was everything she had ever imagined or read in books. Fairy lights, candles, and blissful air flowing as a table for two was near one end of the balcony. The area was decorated with white roses. Skylar’s favorite along with golden fairy lights.

“Is this a date Mr. Wayland?”

She asked as if she was unaware. He pulled a chair for her to sit down on, “Whatever you call it, Miss Lindale,” he replied sitting next to her and pouring some champagne in the glass and handing it to her.

Finally, the date he wanted to take her to for centuries happened. Skylar’s apartment was filled with giggles and chuckles of the two as they talked about everything. They both were truly happy, and they deserved every bit of it.

Elizabeth happily gave the apartment to Ace and Skylar for the night and decided to visit her son’s memories. The grandmother and granddaughter rekindled their relationship and things went the way they wanted it to go.

They couldn’t be happier about it.

6 pm on the human realm
Jade

As I sat next to him watching Frozen, I noticed he had already dozed off as we ate Kayle’s special chocolate cake. I took his plate and kept it on the side as his head was on my shoulder restricting my movement. I pulled the covers a little up as I saw him shiver due to the AC temperature. The remote was too far and I was too lazy to move. I was too comfortable next to him all cuddled up.

Aiden

I slowly opened my eyes looking at her as she gazed at me.

“Staring is rude, you know!” She smiled.

“I was not staring, there was something on your face.”

“Oh, is that so,” I asked with amazement as I saw her cheeks turn red.

I looked at her and thought to myself she was not just a regular girl. She is special, she is special to me at least.

Jade

As I sat there, I smiled to myself and muttered thinking about all the recent events of my life,

What a hell of an adventure it was, just like the worlds in my books I dive into. Morning arrived, Aiden left, and I waited for my soul sister. I remembered the sinister soul sisters for the superworld — were we like them too, I wondered as I waited for June while fondly missing her pranks.

Is there another adventure up Jade’s sleeves! After all she belonged to the superworld! Suddenly, an enormous silver shadow brought Jade out of her reverie…
